Terror Plot Thwarted: UK Police Arrest Five in Cross-Country Counter-Terror Operation

In a swift anti-terror operation conducted across the UK, British counter-terrorism officers apprehended five men suspected of planning a terrorist attack, according to a Sunday statement from London’s Metropolitan Police. Among those arrested were four Iranian nationals. The arrests took place during multiple coordinated raids on Saturday, targeting addresses in various regions.

Authorities believe the men were plotting to attack a specific location, although the intended target has not been disclosed. The suspects were arrested in different areas, including the Greater Manchester region, west London, Swindon, Stockport, and Rochdale. The operation formed part of an urgent investigation involving a potential national security threat.

Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, described the situation as fast-moving. He confirmed that the police are in close communication with the site potentially targeted in the alleged plot. While the full motive is still unclear, investigators are pursuing several lines of enquiry to uncover the suspects’ intentions and assess any further threat to the public.

The four Iranian nationals, aged between 29 and 46, are being held under the UK’s Terrorism Act, while the fifth individual, whose nationality and age are yet to be verified, is being detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act. All five remain in custody as investigations continue, and authorities are working to determine whether more individuals may be linked to the case.

Commander Murphy acknowledged the public's likely concern and urged citizens to remain watchful. He encouraged anyone who observes suspicious behavior to report it immediately.
